Cyclist Alex Dowsett breaks one hour distance record

British cyclist Alex Dowsett has become the fourth person in eight months to set a one hour distance record.

The 26-year-old commonwealth champion recorded a distance of 52.937 kilometres at the Manchester Velodrome, breaking the previous record by 446 metres.

The last record (52.491km) was set in February by Australian Rohan Dennis.

Dowsett, who suffers from haemophilia, was also due to make an attempt that month but had to postpone after breaking his collarbone during training.

The record may not last for long however as the British Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins is making an attempt in June.
