Champions League: Bayern face uphill task

Bayern Munich will be looking to overturn a two goal deficit when they take on Porto in the second leg of their quarter-final clash at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday.

Coach Pep Guardiola said on Monday that French winger Franck Ribery was highly unlikely to recover from an ankle injury in time while adding that only a treble would be enough for the Bavarians.

Bayern’s 3-1 defeat in the first leg was their second in six Champions League matches while Porto remain unbeaten in this season’s competition.

The Portuguese side will be without suspended duo Alex Sandro and Danilo while striker Jackson Martinez remains doubtful after suffering a groin injury.

Elsewhere, French champions Paris Saint Germain face the daunting task of knocking out Spanish giants Barcelona after suffering a 3-1 home defeat in the first leg.

Defender Dani Alves will return from suspension while PSG’s Thiago Silva will miss the second leg at the Camp Nou due to injury.

In the 281 knockout ties played in the European Cup, only six teams have progressed after losing the first leg at home.
